IMMIGRANTS
Appleseed works to ensure that immigrants are well served by their communities and afforded the rights and opportunities they need to become full and productive participants in American society. Our Immigrant Policy Program, launched in 2006, focuses on improving law, policy and practice on immigrant issues at the state and local levels.

There is a growing need to counter anti-immigrant efforts with positive policy initiatives that promote greater civic engagement by new immigrants. With our national network of Centers, Appleseed is uniquely positioned to pursue state-based immigrant policy objectives, especially in non-traditional "new gateway" states. In addition to our extensive work to improve immigrant access to financial institutions, Appleseed is making its mark in several areas. These include the role of local law enforcement in immigration matters; state education policies; immigrant worker rights; immigrant detention in state and county jails; health care access for non-citizens; and due process protections in the justice system for non-citizens.
