Operations Intern
Appleseed seeks an operations intern to assist with a number of activities that affect our different departments. The intern will gain valuable experience working in finance, development, human resources, governability and programs. The intern will also learn the administrative and operational practices that govern any successful nonprofit organization.
Responsibilities
- Supporting the Operations Director in managing the office by processing documents, fulfilling human resources requests and assuming all other administrative duties.
- Creating and maintaining files and databases for Appleseed’s finance and human resources departments.
- Filing for programs and occasionally for the different Centers of our network.
- Assisting in proofreading, editing and preparing various documents, including Audit and IRS materials.
- Assisting in the preparation for thrice-yearly board meetings, including preparing documents and financial materials.
- Creating fact sheets and supporting documents for presentations.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Commitment to Appleseed’s mission
- Current enrollment in college required or recent graduate
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and complete multiple task requirements simultaneously
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Computer software skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Access and Outlook

Communications Intern
Appleseed seeks a communications intern with an interest in working in public relations, media outreach and communications for an established nonprofit organization. Candidates should have outstanding oral and written communication skills with a keen interest in advancing social justice concerns. Strong computer skills, including web site management and/or experience with desktop publishing software would be an asset, but aren’t essential. Internship would entail media list building, media outreach, web updates, updates to organization’s electronic mailing lists and possible preparation of press releases, media advisories and writing of newsletter articles. Development Intern

This position provides an excellent opportunity to learn more about fundraising in the national nonprofit arena in a creative, collegial, and energetic office. Previous fundraising experience is not required, but candidates should have an interest in nonprofit, mission-based organizations.
Development and Events Responsibilities
Tracking donors and managing prospect lists; researching charitable programs of national and local corporations; assisting with the preparation of special events along with pre and post duties.
Grants Responsibilities
Maintaining contribution and contact information in a database; coordinating solicitation and communications including but not limited to drafting and or editing correspondence; conductiong prospect research and list building; tracking donors and managing prospect lists; maintaining detailed records and reports of major donors; conducting basic online research of grant-making foundations for purposes of letters of inquiriy and proposals.
Qualifications and Requirements
The candidate should be skilled in time management, organization, accuracy and attention to detail. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required. Knowledge of DonorPerfect is a plus. The candidate’s academic and/or employment record should demonstrate success in a fast-paced environment where multitasking and priority setting abilities were critical to success. Working effectively as a member of a very motivated and close-knit team is essential, as is a flexible attitude.
