Another dangerous crash occurred in Ottawa County late Friday night. Michigan State Police and the Ottawa County Sheriff Office both responded to the scene and conducted an investigation. They decided to close the highway down completely to avoid any other accidents and conduct the crash-site investigation. It was closed for nearly 5 hours before reopening as normal.
According to dispatchers, one vehicle occupant was trapped inside of the vehicle. While there is not information about this crash yet, we presume the jaws of life was required to remove the victim from the vehicle. The cause of the accident and who is involved isn’t being released by authorities. We do know that one passenger or driver was taken to the hospital. The nature and seriousness of the injuries remain unknown. The crash scene took place on Eastbound I-196 near the 32nd Avenue overpass. The traffic was rerouted through the 32nd avenue exit and back onto the highway.
The Holland/Grand Haven area has been especially treacherous over the last week. The large amounts of lake effect snow paired with the incredibly freezing temperature made driving risky and unsafe. Once we get more information about this accident, we will provide an update!
